After the individual geodasic dome was completed, next followed by assignment 2B which still the same theme and title, but enlarge the scale of dome to fit 3 people inside. Other requirement were listed below:
1. form a group of three.
2. build a bamboo dome able to:
- carryable
- able the float on water, fit all members inside.
- prefabricated
- life-spend 28 month
- assembled in 30 minutes.
3. Post the progress weekly.
this is the first week to post the progress, where me and my group member discuss our first planning for this assignment.
sketches and internet reseach to get the first idea. with the basic of previous assignment, we accually get an idea about the structure of dome. What we really have to planning were the material of base, to prevent water seep in, and how it gonna float on water with 3 person weight.
sketch the form of structure we decide to do, then calculate the lenght and quantity that required for the structure.

pictures above was taken during our discussion, after plan the basic form and material needed, next thing to discuss was analysing the problem that might be faced during the construction and critical problem while float on water.
Then find out the solution online, refering some sample from other country, observe others domes, get the experience solve the problem.
Solution cannot just find out from the internet or other reference, should get others experience by observation and analys them.
figure out the best solution and some options of material, estimate of cost being one of the important part of it, but since we just figure out some options, costing for material will be survey further.
Conclution of discussion:
Material to be prepare: Bamboo as a structure of dome, wire connector (pending, to be survey
further), screw, plastic ( to prevent water seep), rubber etc.
problem : How to get balance on water, sustain 3 peoples weight, how to design it
in foldable and carryable. Material to connect it.
Solution : Pending, have a few options and will be comfirm after survey.

Real Construction
Production: Model Of A Geodesic Dome
First year student of HBP requested to build a geodesic dome by using bamboo satay sticks. A website was given to support this assignment, 3V geodesic dome was my choices as a beginner with this short period of time to apply. Dimention as below:
Radius: 22 cm
Length: A- 7.6cm
B- 8.8cm
C- 9.0cm
Following will show the processes and six element to apply in this assignment.
Material to prepare:
Bamboo satay sticks ( wasn't need that huge number amount)
quite a number of bamboo sticks were rot termite, carefully pick the most
appropriate for firmly .
Plyer & ruler
For cutting and measuring purpose.
Other materials: masking tape as gluing purpose.
Coming up is the process of build-ing. Published dome was the second dome I build, first dome was SPOILED because of bad measurement and cutting, only build on top find out the mistake and can't stand firmly. As the lession of previous experience, second dome was build as shows below:
Cut bamboo sticks follow by measurement as shows above, refer the numbers of
bamboo sticks needed in desertdomes.com.
Stick bamboo sticks as a shape of pentagon, picture above shows
bamboo sticks measurement A+B
This is hexagon that build by B+C, structure C build by double sticks to prevent structure tread.
Picture above shows pentagon and hexagon joint.
Final product, it might seen some angle because of 3V 3/8 been used.

Intention: To understand how structure hold the strengh and how weight transfer through
structure.
Act : Build process as shows above as the act of this assignment. 178 students in this class hold a same assignment, but different way to carry on, so process to build it was a
critical cause it determine the final product.
Actor :The one who build it, myself. Of course desert domes's website plays a part on it, to
calculate the dimension of bamboo sticks.
Rules :Follow the dimension that specified by the calculation to get proper joint.
Place : Own room. Comfort environment to finish product.
Product : A 3V geodesic dome. Understanding the concept how structure how a building and how it holds the strengh, to transfer weight from top.

Virtual Construction
Above was a picture I taken while I'm follow a trip to Padang Kota Lama when I'm studying at Polytechnic. Main purpose of this trip was study urban context and related it to our final project. Never expected I have a changes to use this picture again, after I graduat from Polytechnic. Thought it just a memory before I joined USM.
Six element of production shows in picture:
Intention:
An element that effected results of product, should be placed on the first placed to produce a product. What's the intention of this places? Obviosly, to attract tourist to visit. What's the intention of tourist visit this places? To feel the characteristic of tropica countries, as well as historic location with.
Actor:
A park, the rules, need an actor to play with, pedestrian and tourist are playing important part of it. Tourist who relaxing themself on a bench, under the shade of a tree, proper use of facilities in this park. The boy who carring a beg in hurry, pedicap shows the formation of the local characteristics. Differences were every actor holding their own characteristic while playing the act. As mentioned in element of act above. Same motive and intention, but different way to carry on.
Place:
Generally a park was the first image that can easily find out in this picture. where those facilities such as lamppost, pedestrian, bollard, bench and of course, green plants that mostly attracted , which identified what places it was. Buses and other transportation were dispaly the attraction. In advanced, pedicab on the right appearance believe that become one of the feature there, be sure that this park located in tropical countries, where located at Malaysia, which had diferrent kind of complexion and tropical plants.
Act :
Different character carried by different individual. Apparently two tourist who relaxed themself, enjoying the environment, fearless of the eyes from others. One of them pad on his legs on the bench with sun glasses, under the cool shade of a tree .A boy cross the road with carring a beg, seem in hurry,Formation and the former completely different. Review carefully the relevant, The beg that carried by the boy, colors and stripes are matched with 2 buses where parked side of the road. Believed he was following a trip from college. Pedicab was taking his part as well, awaiting passenger, with a pack of drink hanging on the cab...
Rule:
Rules are taught on proper way to do. Public goods haven't been used correctly as well, the tourist pad his legs on the bench, people may be unable to sit, his behavior shows no respect for others. Second, the boy who crossing the road have never shows his safety awareness, without paying attenting to traffic. Cars and Buses were parked everywhere where should't be parked, blocking the traffic. But in another perspective, cars and buses were parked row by row, clear a way in front of bollard, so it wont affect pedestrian form enetring the park. It's different view that shows they obeying the rules.
Product:
Finally, a product came out after filtered by five element as mention above. It's a result of all factors together. This places becomes one of the trademark of Penang, recorded history of the past, shared historical relics with visitors. Become a useful teaching aids, for student study purpose. A successful production supported by a variety of factors, like a historical park have variety of facilities to makes it more attractive, facilities brought elements like actors, act, rules together, bring in intention element, then it form a collusion of all the factors of the chain.
